Meet Our Story Submission Chair Tamara Oki, C’ 12
When did you graduate from the University of Pennsylvania? In 2012, I graduated from the College of Arts and Sciences. I graduated with a double major in History and African Studies and a minor in French Studies.
What have you pursued after college? I am currently completing my second year as a Teach For America corps member in Detroit, Michigan.
What is your role on the CV Board? As the Story Submission Chair, I nominate potential contributors and I support active contributors in the story writing process. I help these ladies decide on the aspects of their college experience they would like to discuss the most. When they need to generate ideas, I provide suggestions. I also keep contributors informed about updates to the project.
What do you hope to accomplish by working on the Climbing Vines project? By working on the Climbing Vines project, I hope to build a stronger connection among black women from Penn. I think bringing black women together is very critical- especially when it comes to addressing issues that are unique to our community. I was able to do this through my involvement with Sister, Sister while at Penn but now that I’m an alumna, I miss the closeness and profound dialogue that the group fostered. Through Climbing Vines I want to extend the opportunity for us to exchange perspectives beyond graduation.
